Missions
Guatemala
Guatemala is the Central American country best known for the wonderful Maya ruins and as a place that was home to one of the oldest civilizations on the planet.
What is not as well known is that poverty in Guatemala is widespread and deeply entrenched, particularly among poor rural people, who account for 71 per cent of the country’s poor population. The country’s high rates of illiteracy, infant mortality and infant malnourishment are even higher among indigenous peoples, most of whom live in rural areas.
In the fall of 2016 an Adult Mission went for their third trip back to the communities visited in 2010. Many of the same individuals from the last trip went again and I’m sure they were looking forward to renew friendships and see how their past contributions have affected the communities.
Read all about our work in Guatemala on our blog at the Mission Team Blog. Our next tentative mission date will be April 2019.
Also, we have ongoing projects like sewing and making the school Uniforms for the Centre of Hope in Parramos Guatemala and an ongoing collection of school supplies for our friends there.
If you are interested in supporting this worthwhile endeavor, please contact Juli Conard for more information.
Mississippi
In 2009, a group of young Greenbank church parishioners took on the task of driving down to Mississippi to help in the rebuilding of the area ravished by massive hurricane Katrina in
August of 2005.
A follow up trip took place in 2011 to once again aid in the ongoing rebuilding of this storm torn area.
For information about this and other organized missions, please contact Juli Conard.
Annual Canoe Trip
This year we completed our 17th annual Canoe Trip down the Madawaska River.
This annual trip happens in July every year, for more information or to register for next years trip please contact Juli Conard at Juliconard@gmail.com
